It is with deep love and gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Sheila Toth, who left us at the age of 92 on March 10, 2026.
Sheila was born in Pilger, SK on March 26, 1933. The youngest daughter of Siegfried and Mary Egger, Sheila and her sisters spent countless hours operating the local telephone switchboard. Mom would always giggle when she shared her numerous antics while connecting or disconnecting the various calls.
Sheila was feisty in the best possible way – spirited, strong-willed, and never afraid to speak her mind, her charisma filled every room she entered. Her smile and sparkling eyes simply drew you into her circle. She loved dogs and adored babies and had a natural gift for making everyone feel welcome and important.
Mom always had a job. She worked for J.H. Ashdown’s Hardware store in Regina, then S.S. Kresge in Toronto before she married. While staying home to raise four kids, she held jobs at Kmart, a local daycare in Melville, The Department of Indian Affairs in Sioux Lookout, and D.R.I.E in Winnipeg where she retired in 1988. Whether it was sales, records office, switchboard, reception or house cleaning, mom was in perpetual motion. She would proudly say she could run circles around us kids well into her 70’s – we knew well enough not to challenge her.
Throughout her life, Sheila sewed, crocheted, knit, stitched, and quilted. From baby clothes to smocked dresses, a massive Barbie wardrobe, and keepsake personalized quilts, we each have a collection of Sheila’s treasured handiwork.
Sheila was a brilliant hostess and never missed an opportunity to invite friends for dinner, but her passion was baking. Her jelly roll, peanut butter fudge and butter tarts were legendary to all who were lucky enough to taste them. We all waited for the moment mom would bring out a carefully wrapped tray of her dainties. The St. Charles Parish bake sales were her pride and joy and she delighted to contribute and connect with the friends she cherished.
Mom and Dad loved to dance. Whether square dancing, waltzing or twirling across the floor in a lively polka, you could not escape their confidence and joy as the two of them cleared the dance floor in the best possible way.
And yes – she was a diva. Always dressed to impress, with sparkling jewelry to complete the look, Sheila believed in presenting oneself with style. Dressing for church included gloves and purses for Tammy and Leila, bowties and trench coats for Darren and Trevor. She wore her high heels well into her 70’s because elegance, in her view, was simply non-negotiable.
Above all, Sheila was devoted to her family. She married her childhood sweetheart Bill Toth in 1959 and together they shared 64 years of marriage. She leaves behind her loving children, Darren and Gillian, Leila and Murray, Tammy and Declan, Trevor and Dayna. She was a proud grandmother to Ryan (Maria), Emily (Graham), Ashton, Meghan (Mike), Ben (Avah), Luke, Shane, Ryah (Kasey), Alayna, Lynaya and beloved great-grandmother to Madison and William.
She leaves behind a legacy of joy, sweetness and sass in her laughter, her sparkle and in the countless lives she touched. Heaven has surely gained a little more shine and perhaps a perfectly baked butter tart. Mom, you raised us well. We love you.
We want to thank the amazing staff at Rosewood Alder house, and Misericordia TCU C5 for the loving care, compassion and guidance provided our family and Mom.
Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, 2400 Portage Ave.
